Creating Material for the Stage

Pre-requisite: INTRO | Class size limited | Cost: $295 — $78 Deposit Due Now | Remaining Due on the first day of class | 6 weeks

Instructors: Mike Rose and Kevin Krieger

Focus will be on solo and duo performance pieces. The goal is to devise stand-alone pieces that can be put up in all kinds of shows.

Culminating in a performance, this class will explore what it means to take each performer's unique Idiot out of the classroom and into the theater with a live audience. Through improvisation, performers will find and develop material that is unique to their comedic voice. Participants will learn a plethora of techniques for building a dynamic piece from a simple idea or impulse, and pieces will be developed and refined through technical focus on basic theatre skills, live direction and talkback. Ideas will be discovered, expanded and refined in the classroom, so please keep your precious tour-de-force that you’ve been thinking about for 15 years at home. The tools you’ll learn in class will help you get that monkey off your back.

Kevin Krieger has spent most of his adult life at The Idiot Workshop. Mike Rose worked as a dancer with Usher before making mince meat of every comedy institution in Los Angeles, including the Idiot Workshop.
