The Denver Intro Idiot Intensive is an introduction to the basic principles of The Idiot. You will experience the standard 6-week Idiot Intro course that we require all students to take, all packed into a 3-day intensive. 3 days to fully dive into this lovely art form that is taking over the comedy scene. Truly my favorite way to consume this material. Performers in The Idiot Workshop learn to be present and playful, allowing them to improvise organically without having to rules or formulas. Performers are encouraged to eschew common “types” and discover their own comedic voice that serves their personal identity. Range is developed through strong commitment to choice, character, self and partner. Performers will explore the physicality of their choices raising their performances to ones that are fully embodied and deeply visceral. Performers will be welcome to join ongoing Idiot classes upon completion of the course.
Ian Bratschie is an award-winning clown and performer from Los Angeles. He has been instrumental in building the burgeoning clown scene in LA, having taught for over a decade and performed even longer. He has been a member of many clown ensembles that influenced the modern LA clown scene, including The Murge, Clown Zoo, and currently, Cruel Babes, directed by John Gilkey, the founder and creative director of The Idiot Workshop. He hosts and produces LA’s biggest clown variety show Biz Biz (currently set to be a part of the Netflix Is A Joke Festival) and is touring his award-winning solo show, Todd Macabre. He has appeared in various TV shows and commercials. He created, wrote and starred in the clowning TV show Two Pink Doors on FX with his clown ensemble members. Ian is also a queer little weirdo and a certified peer support specialist in California, and he is proud of all of it.
